- יְטִי, יְטָא(cmp. מְטָא, נְטָא, v. P. Sm. 159 1), to incline, turn. Pa. יַטֵּי to adduce, prefer. Y.Ber.II, 4b top לית אפשר דלא י׳ מילה it was impossible that he should not have brought on (in his lecture) a word (alluding to the exodus from Egypt); cmp. Bab. ib. 13b מהדר רבי אשמעתאוכ׳. (Vers. in Fr. Ahăb. Zion: יָטִיף; ed. Lehm. יַיְתִי, v. אֲתָא. Af. אַיְיטִי to hand, reach over. Gen R. s. 38 א׳ לי כולבא Ar. s. v. כלב (ed. אייתי … קולב׳; Yalk. Gen. 62 אמטי) hand me a pair of tongs (an axe). Gen. R. s. 15, end דאַיְיטִיאַתוכ׳ Ar. s. v. ברת (ed. אמטיית), v. אַלִּיתָא. Koh. R. to III, 9 כל … יַיְטֵי ליה מהוכ׳ every one shall bring for himself something whereon to recline.
